Biography
Niko approaches blackwork as a problem of structure rather than decoration. A composition begins with the body’s major axes and with the distances between them: shoulder to elbow, sternum to side, spine to shoulder blade. Black fields are then placed to create tension, direction, and useful silence.
The design process is precise and collaborative. References help establish density and atmosphere, but the final arrangement is built specifically for the wearer’s proportions. On larger projects, the work is planned in stages so that every completed section can stand on its own while remaining part of the whole.
He pays particular attention to how a piece changes between rest and motion. Strong geometry softens where the body requires it; irregular edges and open passages prevent the composition from feeling imposed.
